Arrival in Marrakech
You arrive, and the city meets you with warm air and rosewater. A private transfer brings you to a hidden riad, its courtyard cool and green.

Inside the Medina

The road climbs through mountain passes and Berber villages. You pause for tea with a local family, then continue toward the edge of the desert.

Stone fortresses rise from the valley floor. Walk their lanes, and watch the light change the color of the earth. In the evening, you rest in a small kasbah guesthouse.

Into the Dunes
The land turns to sand. You reach a private desert camp, with canvas and lanterns on a ridge. Saharan silence. Nothing prepares you for it.

Sunrise on the Sahara
Climb a dune before the heat arrives and watch the sky change. Return for a slow breakfast. The day may include a camel ride, or none at all.

Toward the Coast
A long, beautiful drive leads west to the Atlantic. Salt breeze, white walls, and the blue of fishing boats greet you in Essaouira.

Farewell, Morocco
Spend a last morning walking the ramparts and the harbor. A transfer takes you onward to your flight. The desert goes with you.

Chefchaouen

Founded in 1471 and only opened to non-Muslims in the 20th century, it retains an authenticity that the larger imperial cities have largely lost.
Aït Benhaddou
UNESCO Heritage SiteThe most famous and best-preserved ksar (fortified village) in Morocco, Aït Benhaddou's red earth towers and ramparts have been used as the setting for dozens of major films and television series including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones. Rising above the Ounila River valley in the High Atlas foothills, it is one of the most photographed buildings in Africa.
