One of the seven natural wonders of Africa, the Okavango is an inland river delta that floods seasonally, transforming the Kalahari into a vast water world. Visitors explore by mokoro canoe and small motorboat, drifting through papyrus channels while hippos surface and kingfishers flash overhead.

Home to the highest concentration of elephants on earth — over 130,000 — Chobe's riverfront is one of Africa's most dramatic wildlife stages. Late-afternoon boat cruises bring you within metres of massive breeding herds drinking and swimming in the Chobe River.

The largest salt pan complex on earth, the Makgadikgadi becomes a surreal white mirror after the rains and an ancient fossil lake floor during the dry season. Between November and April, it hosts the second-largest zebra migration in Africa, attracting lions, hyenas, and cheetahs in large numbers.

The second-largest game reserve in the world, the Central Kalahari is a remote desert wilderness of fossil riverbeds, grassland plains, and ancient dune systems. Black-maned Kalahari lions, brown hyenas, and meerkats roam here in near-total solitude.

Rising abruptly from the Kalahari Desert, these ancient quartzite hills hold over 4,500 rock paintings representing the spiritual life of San Bushman cultures spanning 100,000 years. The site is deeply sacred to the San people, who call it the Mountain of the Gods.
